Much has been said about Dubai, the second largest emirate in the United Arab Emirates (after Abu Dhabi). It is the emirate that has succeeded in increasing its position in the last decade through its wealth, its exceptional desert beauty, and a variety of attractions as a modern city.

1) The history of Dubai and its people

Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates. It is located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates that make up the state. The establishment of Dubai dates back to the 1830s (1833) when about 800 people from the Bani Yas tribe, led by Al Maktoum, settled in the Al Khor area. Al Khor was then a natural port of the region, which later led to the emergence of Dubai as a center for fishing, pearl and trade. It has a total area of 4110 square kilometers and is located on the south-east coast of Persian Gulf. The importance of the emirate has recently emerged as a global city and center of business from the Middle East, and the most important characteristic of its occupation ranked the twenty-two as the world's most expensive cities.

Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, was keen to strengthen communication and cooperation with the sheikhs of the UAE by establishing a union between the UAE to protect oil resources and coasts. Sheikh Rashid and Zayed were invited to the Trucial States, Qatar and Bahrain to participate in the establishment meetings. The first was in 1968, and on July 18, 1971, a federation was established between six emirates: Fujairah, Ajman, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Later in 1972, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah joined in.

Back to 50’s of the twentieth century, the number of ships using Al Khor increased, which led to the fullness of the lake. The decision of Dubai’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, was courageous, ambitious and visionary. The increase in the number of ships reaching the port and the increase in the volume of goods received in Dubai, which significantly reflected the strengthening and consolidation of Dubai as an important trading center and a leading re-export station.

By the beginning of the 20th century, Dubai was a well-known port, with a population of about 20,000, with residents accounting for a quarter of them. After the discovery of oil in 1966, Sheikh Rashid worked to invest oil imports in the development of Dubai's infrastructure, building schools, hospitals and roads. During this period, he established modern communication and transportation network. He also built a modern building and harbor at Dubai International Airport and the landing runway was developed to accommodate all types of aircraft. His Highness ordered the construction of the largest artificial port in the world in the Jebel Ali region, which has become the seat of a free zone, whose fame still fills the horizons.

It was clear that emerging Dubai had enough resources to achieve historic success. There is a wise leadership with a clear vision, an integrated infrastructure, a friendly environment open to all, no taxes on personal income and within institutions, it was almost negligible.
